Phylogeny workshops

Here are some quick workshops I have written, presenting methods and softwares widely used by molecular evolutionists. I am not a phylogeneticist nor a statistician. Therefore these documents might still contain gross mistakes and should be considered with caution: be critical (a generally wise attitude)!

There are a number of well-written books about theory and practice of phylogenetics. My favourite one is the excellent Phylogenetic Handbook edited by P. Lemey, M. Salemi and A.M. Vandamme, published at the University Press, Cambridge (UK). It gathers contributions from an impressive dream team of molecular evolutionists, displaying a not less impressive sense of pedagogy. It also has the advantage to be relatively cheap (ca. 40 euros) and now freely available from my desk.

Getting in touch with SeaView, a nice tool allowing multiple sequence alignment  and quick phylogenetic analyses (parsimony, distance methods, PhyML).

A workshop centered on the thorny questions of position homology and alignment  methods.

A last resort, for desperate causes only.
